AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
A DC-10 aircraft flown by United Airlines made a return to San Francisco airport on 4 August due to mechanical problems.
The aircraft had been carrying 287 passengers and ten crew from San Francisco to Hawaii when the pilot was forced to dump fuel over the Pacific and return to the mainland. A spokesperson for the carrier told the Associated Press that the pilot had to rely on a backup system to operate the landing gear.
No injuries were reported.
